Heartburn Patients (GERD)
Many of our patients suffer from severe heartburn, or gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dr. Metz is one of the only surgeons in the region to be able to evaluate patients in the office, under local anesthesia, for the causes of this very painful and disruptive disease process. With a simple process called Trans-Nasal Endoscopy (TNE), Dr. Metz passes a tiny camera through the nose, down into the esophagus and stomach. This allows him to diagnose reasons for chronic nausea, reflux, dysphagia (sensation of food getting stuck), upper abdominal pain, and many other disorders.
Most insurances cover the procedure, and there is no need for an IV. Patients receive their results from Dr. Metz and are able to return to work immediately after the procedure.
